Revenue measures pass, most incumbents fall

Three revenue measures passed by wide margins, but only one of the three sitting board members seeking to continue their service won in Tuesday's elections.
Bruneau-Grand View school board chair Lori Bennett lost the Zone 3 election to challenger RaeLynn Schkade by a three-vote margin.
In Zone 5, Howard Field lost his re-election bid to Steve Boren.
John Demshar will continue as Subdistrict 2 commissioner in the Homedale Highway District, gaining twice as many votes as second-place Hap Duryee in a three-way race.
The Marsing Rural Fire District will be able to build a substation in Canyon County after the passage of a permanent levy override.
Marsing-Homedale Cemetery patrons OK'd a permanent levy override, too.
The Bruneau Water and Sewer Association 40-year bond also passed by a wide margin in an election in which only 20 votes were cast.
Read the May 24 edition of The Owyhee Avalanche for in-depth follow-up on these developments.
